ProTecBird uses the existing infrastructure of the wind farms to install the system. Moving cameras monitor the airspace around the wind farm. Tracking software first records the birds in the airspace to be monitored. The AVES-KI then determines whether it is a protected bird species. As soon as a protected target species has been identified, it is tracked by at least two cameras that are further apart. Triangulation enables precise three-dimensional positioning. This makes it possible to determine when the birds are getting too close to the danger zone and spin mode needs to be triggered and when this mode can be terminated again.
